The Power of Words
Ernst Cassirer says that language moves in the realm between the indefinite and the infinite.
In the indefinite, "things" have not clearly taken shape. For example, in looking into the depths of the Grand Canyon, you may not notice a particular feature until a companion says, "Look at that outcropping." Now an "outcropping swims into focus. Where before there was no thing, now a thing exists. You and your companion now inhabit a similar world, are closer together in consciousness.
In the realm of the infinite, no things exist. The physical senses see no thing, see nothing. Yet when you or someone says, for example, "The Infinite is the Source of all Being," the infinite has become a thing, a concept that can be seen through imagery.
Both the indefinite and the infinite remain hidden until called into being through words. We are surrounded by realms yet unnamed, unexplored.
This is so true, George, and it is key to whatever evolution our consciousness has, and is experiencing. The realms as yet unnamed and not noticed are the source of incredible future excitement. This is a good way to start my week ~ thank you, George!
