We choose a story that gives us the most power, the most richness, a heightened sense of breadth and depth. We revel in it. We are “saved” by it. We feel its healing power. We become more joyful. We choose the story and the story chooses us.

We connect with others who are teachers and disciples of our story. We are story mates. We recognize each other. We recognize each other through a common language, attire, and behavior.

Some proclaim themselves to be teachers of the story. This proclamation comes through lectures, book authorship, workshops. People like to hear their story told, explained, clarified, made real. Groups are formed, formal and informal. Certificates might also be given. 

No one escapes this process. Every human chooses / is chosen by a story. Everyone believes their story to be real. Especially those who debunk other people’s stories. 

A story is real if and when you believe it.
